Traveling…… for vacation!

Happy Monday Evening! (Or Tuesday morning… or Wednesday… or whatever day it is when you are reading this).

This week was another traveling week but happily some of it was for fun! I just got back from an AMAZING weekend with my Purdue girls. We have been trying to find a weekend to get together for about a year now and we finally did! It was so great to kick back, relax, soak up some sun & catch up. We headed to the Outer Banks for a weekend of fun, and we totally lucked out with the weather! I think to recap the weekend, I’m going to rely on my photo dump below… but first, even though I was having fun, I still had a few workouts to cover:

Weekly Workouts//

  • Monday – Recovery Ride 1 hr 10 min – Post Seneca 7 Relay Spin
  • Tuesday – 2000 yd Swim – Speed Workout
  • Wednesday – Brick Workout Scheduled, due to 12+ hour workday, this was moved to Thursday… (life sometimes interrupts the best made plans, especially when it’s the life that foots the bills for the fun).
  • Thursday – AM – 2600 yd Swim
  • Thursday – PM – 1 hr 50 min Brick
  • Friday – Rest Day – Travel to OBX
  • Saturday – Run 1 hr 10 min, with Mile Repeats

  • Bike – 1 hour 10 minutes – on trainer for recovery ride

Finally found some Tiger Balm. Loved having this stuff for post Seneca 7.

I know this is from last week… but missed this one for my Seneca 7 Recap Post – for some reason it was always easy to spot him on the course…

A quote on running I saw online last week. I can’t remember where I grabbed this from, so sadly I can’t even give credit where it’s due. (Sorry!)

And now for the OBX pictures and recap… we were a block away from the beach, and with the nice weather we spent a lot of time walking the beach and soaking up the sun.

The walkway to the beach:

The house we rented. AKA “The Big Cabana” – this was the perfect house for us – we each had our own room and due to it being before the main tourist season, we got a fantastic rate! 20140504-211811.jpg

The other thing you should know about this house, is that it had amazing decorations. We had a lot of fun spotting new quirky decorations all weekend. There was SO MUCH in this house to take in…

Some items were more random than others… 20140505-213843.jpg

And this gem of a mirror… 20140505-125919.jpg

Anyhow, now that I’m done showing off the unique qualities of the house… I did enjoy some time relaxing and reading on the top deck of the house post-speed workout on Saturday. I think the decks and porches of the houses was one of my favorite things in the Outer Banks.

And some “reading” on the Beach. We had good intentions of reading, but we basically just caught up on life occurrences while soaking up the sun!

And we may or may not have enjoyed a few of these… it really was just a kick back and relax vacation! 20140504-211850.jpg

On Sunday, we decided to go to brunch at an amazing restaurant. Goombays served up some delicious breakfasts!

I personally was calling this one a breakfast of champions!

After brunch, we decided to check out the Bodie Island Lighthouse. We were greeted by this sign:

Which meant we spent the rest of the time there on the lookout for snakes.  But we also took a few pics of the lighthouse:

After our lighthouse viewing and walk, it was time for the beach again!

After the beach, we had a few adventures with the charcoal grill for dinner…

This morning, I got up early for one last walk on the beach. The weather turned a bit colder, but it was still nice to get out and walk before another day of airports and car travel.

Plus, the sunrise was awesome this morning!

And some seashells for a future project! 20140505-125849.jpgAirport antics.

Airport entertainment. We couldn’t decide what was really going on here… but I’ll just say we were not the only people taking pictures. 🙂20140505-215917.jpg

While I was very sad to see this weekend end, it was an fantastic trip with some amazing women! I can’t wait until our next reunion trip! …although we all recognized the need to quickly commit to next year’s trip and book it on the calendar since we all maintain similar (busy) schedules!

A view out the window…  the Finger Lakes as the plane headed North to NY.

I hope you had a similarly amazing weekend & have a wonderful week!

Cheers!

  1. Looks like you are having quite the time.

I have to apologize to you as well. (World, gather around.) I didn’t realize that you commented on Kinani until this morning. I don’t get the notifications about comments, so there was no red flag that you wrote. However, I did respond… Unfortunately it was today, which is late. Talk about time, prioritizing…

Thank you, however. I greatly appreciate the comments.

Hope all is well, regardless if you are on a beach or in your backyard. The sun is out, so soak it up.
