Tinkerin’ Around

For my weekly recap, I am largely going to go with a photo recap again.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of photos from the week, I mostly just have pics from a mini-hike I went on Monday.  Honestly, I think that’s because the rest of the week was mostly a washout weather-wise and I spent a majority of time focused on the job since a holiday weekend is coming up which means we’re extra busy trying to secure things down at work since most of our customers like to shut their processing plants down and we have to figure out what to do with all of the milk that the cows continue to produce (sadly there’s no on/off switch for the cows). 

Anyhow, Monday was my scheduled rest day.  It was also the day for my first ever deep tissue massage to try and relieve some of the issues that I have been having with my calves due to the speed work from my races the past month or so.  If you have never had a deep tissue massage, let me tell you – this is not a “feel good” massage for relaxing.   A deep tissue massage can leave you quite sore for a couple of days but it did work wonders on my body and I feel much better now than I did before the massage. 

After the massage, I met up with A and we headed out of the city for a mini-hike at Tinker Falls.  While I’m sure my coach and the massage therapist would be cringing at the fact that I went hiking right after my massage (I was too, my legs were definitely sore), it was great to get out for a bit and walk around.  Plus Rox definitely likes running around in the woods and getting as dirty as possible in the shortest amount of time possible.

Today I was planning to get back out on the 70.3 course for a 35 mile bike and a 10 mile run but so far we’re having a super rainy day – so this adventure may have to wait until things clear up.  I talked with my coach and I’m down to the final block of training.  Just 3 weeks until the Oswego Tri and then the 70.3 is a week later, so I’ll be tapering the final 2 weeks leaving me only 2 weeks of intense training left.  I can’t believe how quickly these past 3 months have flown by.  The goal for the next few weeks is to focus on my swimming and to get at least 2 or 3 open water swims in for practice.  Luckily the CNY Tri Club is hosting an OWS in a week and some of the other members are scheduling informal OWS meetups so I should be able to get in the water!

But in the meantime, it’s Memorial Day weekend.  I’m not sure what the weekend is going to bring since it looks like we’re going to start off cold and rainy… the original plan was to do some overnight camping and backpacking but maybe we’re going to have to stick with some day trips instead.  I’m also hoping to visit some of the family since it’s been way too long since I’ve seen everyone… but regardless of what happens this weekend and what adventures I end up taking on, it’s a holiday weekend and I’m looking forward to the day off on Monday!
