Another year has come and gone, and a new year is now here! 2012 held many adventures, traveling to Brazil & Argentina, completion of 2 Master’s degrees, Ragnar relay, Boilermaker, got back into tri’s, new friendships were born, new experiences at work, and many other happy events. 2012 also had a few low points, but I guess we all need to experience some of those low points in order to truly appreciate the good times.
While I do not really enjoy resolutions since they often seem to fade to the sidelines after a few weeks, I do enjoy setting a few goals to strive for. To start, there is the obvious set of sport & training goals. The biggest one will be the Syracuse 70.3 Ironman in June. Prior to the 70.3, I have the Seneca 7 and Ragnar Cape Cod. I also want to schedule a half-marathon and a ultra-trail race into my running adventures!
Additionally, I need to focus on the food that I am fueling my body with. During my time in grad school I did not have a lot of extra time, and I used my time-crunched schedule as an excuse to eat whatever I could prepare quickly. This year I want to do a better job of planning out meals and trying new recipes.
Another goal for 2013 is to make sure that I take time to enjoy life by maintain a balance between training for events and spending time with family, friends, and trying other activities. I just finished a 4 day snowmobiling adventure in Old Forge, I realized how much I missed that winter activity… I also want to ski and snowshoe, go hiking, kayaking, fishing, and camping. Hopefully my week in Lake Placid in July will allow for some of these activities! Finally, I want to take a trip toward the end of the year. I’m not sure what the destination will be at this point, but I feel like it’s time to adventure overseas again!
These were just a few of the goals that I came up with during the Resolution Run this morning which the Syracuse Track Club hosts each year on the Northside. It was an awesome 5 miles through the city as the snow fell all around us!
