Well, as week 1 comes to a close here, i feel good about what I have accomplished this week.
Saturday was gorgeous in CNY, I took a bike ride. I definitely could tell that my body was feeling a little worn down from all the activity this week. I ended up riding for an hour at a fairly easy pace, and managed to cover 16.4 miles. It felt good to get out there and use the new bike, and I am definitely getting more used to riding it. It also helped, that I picked up a pair of triathlon shorts with some padding for riding my bike, it made a world of difference for comfort.
Today, besides all the blogging about my recent activities, I fit in a nice walk this morning with my dog (even thought it was quite windy and chilly). This evening I hit up the gym for a run and a swim. I ran 20 minutes on the treadmill (again another painful experience), and then I decided to try out the pool. I got my new goggles out and jumped in. I had to share a lane with another woman who is training for the Green Lakes triathlon – she was very nice. It was good to talk about training with someone.
My first few laps back and forth were fantastic, I was feeling really good. However, after about 4 laps, I was really getting tired. So I decided just to put in 20 minutes of laps doing various strokes, to help get my body accustom to swimming again. As I swam laps, I realized that this is really going to be my biggest need for training. The pool is 25 m in length, so by the end of July, I need to be able to swim 32 lengths of the pool, non-stop in the forward crawl. Sweet. This is going to be a challenge.
However, I’m still optimistic about this training thing. It was a good week. I’ll just have to re-arrange my schedule to add in more swimming to get ready.
Tomorrow is a rest day, which is really a good thing since (a) my body probably needs it to recoup from Week 1, and (b) I’m going to be spending the day in the car for a customer visit in PA. Get to update them on the pricing situation on the dairy farms. Always a fun task!
